Inspired by Henry Moore’s sketchbook of sheep, Bruce Robinson’s current work studies various animals extensively in ballpoint combined with ink, watercolour wash and gouache. He is interested in the every day rather than the exotic and maintaining the freshness of the "sketch" rather than a more "finished" piece.
He studied architecture at Hammersmith College of Art & Building where he was introduced to the joy of life drawing. He continued with this during a successful career working in the conversion and restoration of period London buildings.
When finding himself no longer trapped in the mind numbing tedium of the daily commute to London he attended an Art Foundation Course at the Hitchin College that provided an impetus to his creativity and resulted in a period of experimentation in mediums and subject matter. The work he is doing now may not be what he will do next year; he will go where his interest takes him.
