Paintings by Chris Odell and Carolyn Tyler

Paintings in watercolour, oil and acrylic, with abstract and stylised landscapes worked up from sketches drawn and painted in the local Hertfordshire countryside.

Chris Odell has lived all her life in Hertfordshire. After gaining an “O” level in art at school, she trained for a career in cartography (gaining an HND qualification), which combined her loves of geography and art.

She says: "This career was put on hold in 1985, while I raised my son and daughter. Fifteen years later cartography has become computerised (along with everything else). Now with more time to myself I have returned to the fine art side of my interests in a more serious way, initially developing my watercolour work, striving towards a flowing, loose style.

"More recently I have been exploring the acrylic and oil media, producing abstract and stylised landscapes, worked-up from sketches drawn and painted in the local Hertfordshire countryside."

Caroline Tyler  lives in Knebworth, although originally from Scotland.  Her interest in art began in childhood and she attended life drawing classes and studied figure drawing for many years.

A newcomer to acrylics, she previously worked in pastels, charcoal and  watercolour.  She now takes inspiration from the local countryside.
