Café Gallery
Paintings by Hitchin-based Sarah Booth filled the Café Gallery during March 2009. She graduated from West Surrey College of Art and Design in 1990 with a BA Hons. degree in Fine Art.
After an inspirational residency at the Cypriot Art College in Pafos, she began to paint pomegranates which still feature so much in her work. Inspiration comes from many places and she is strongly influenced by travels through Asia, Cyprus and Ireland.
To her, process is as important as the subject. She predominately uses mixed media; paint is often layered and scratched away, revealing glimpses of what was there before. The pomegranates have become both icons and a visual language for her, representing sexuality, fertility, longing and love.

She creates intrigue and a story by combining seemingly unrelated collage ‘treasures’ together. These may be tickets from my travels, stamps from love letters and discarded papers.
