LALG groups at the Arts Centre
We are delighted to welcome various Letchworth Arts and Leisure Group activities to the Arts Centre. LALG groups meeting here include the Letchworth Jazz Appreciation Society, the Fat Book Club, Bus Buddies, the Transport and Industrial Heritage Group and the Games Club. LALG, which is entirely separate from the Arts Centre, is a brilliant umbrella organisation covering a huge range of leisure activities in Letchworth catering for all tastes and ages. Letchworth Jazz Appreciation Society
Offers a cordial and relaxed setting in which to listen to jazz, and chat to fellow enthusiasts. It caters for all tastes in jazz (New Orleans, Chicago, East Coast, West Coast, British; early, traditional, swing, mainstream, modern; or whatever) and for everyone who has enjoyed listening to jazz for years, or who is just starting out to enjoy this most exhilarating music.
Now in its 14th year, for 2012, it has a programme of monthly meetings (at 7.30pm, on the last Thursday each month, except December (13th)) in the Café at the Arts Centre.
At each meeting, a member presents a programme of his own choice of music. In the second half, we catch up with recent and forthcoming events in the jazz world, followed by a session in which members have the opportunity to play their favourite tracks under the theme for that month.
Refreshments are on hand, and it also has available for loan a collection of jazz materials -– books, CDs, videotapes/DVDs, and a library of members’ past presentations.
Bob Wright, secretary, will be very pleased to provide more information. He can be contacted on 01462.454562, or at judy_wright@btinternet.com
The Fat Book Club
The format this year will be a 'fat' book - a classic of its genre - and a book of choice on the chosen theme.
The Group explores a new format whereby members discuss a book they have all read and hear from fellow members about a book each has chosen on a similar theme. The chosen work can be in any form - poetry, play, fiction or non-fiction.
If you would like to know more why not come along and listen. Don‟t worry if you have not read the book.
The Club meets on the first Thursday each month at 7.30.
