Our permanent crafts display cabinets in the Main Gallery are a showcase for the best of local craftspeople, working in a wide range of styles and media. Unusual jewellery, unique pottery -- it's an exhibition well worth visiting.
Everything is for sale, at extremely affordable prices. So it is the ideal place for that unusual and special present. Or just treat yourself.
Current exhibits include:
Alyssa Smith’s jewellery is a blend of striking beads in wonderful colours, clustered together. We have necklaces and earrings, which complement each other and would make a wonderful present. And see www.alyssa-smith.com.
Zinna jewellery combines the craft of weaving with the elegance of jewellery, to produce breathtaking gold and silver woven jewellery. And see www.zinniajewellery.co.uk
Liz Willis uses textile techniques, such as knitting and stitching, to combine natural, manmade and precious materials with yarns and threads. Her current body of work involves silk threads stitched over organic shapes formed of silver or gold wire.
Elspeth Keith: If you love plants but are bored with conventional containers, you could treat your plant to its own custom-built home with the strangely shaped ‘sculptural pots’ of Elspeth Keith, which seem to grow out of the earth.
Geckoman’s ceramic animals range from friendly frogs to amused geckos and a few bats, which hang about. These critters are brightly coloured and look great inside or out. And see www.geckoman.co.uk
Nigel Carrick’s porcelain pieces are beautifully produced with heavily oxided slips, which expand and become volcanic on firing. This technique organically twists and cracks the tiles and dishes. We have some beautiful wall hanging pieces and small dishes for you to have your own little landscape in your sitting room. And see www.nigelcarrickclayscapes.co.uk
Sarah Stoker’s ceramic jugs, cups and bowls bring a little bit of light into anyone’s crockery cupboard. The fun patterns and striking flowers make the pieces a must have. You’re sure to want to use yours every time you have friends over.
Mark Langford’s glass works really come alight: he uses tissue paper to create wonderful effects on his electric lamps, with candleholders that work wonderfully with the flickering effect of a candle.
Janie Graham is selling her wonderful bird boxes. Don’t want a real bird in your life? Janie Graham’s boxes are filled with parrots and woodland birds made out of paper and card. They are truly special. And see www.janiegrahamarts.co.uk
